Rosie Wilkins scoops top prize at Scottish Apprenticeship Awards 2017

Geoff Martyn General News

Apprentice Rosie Wilkins, employed by The Torridon Hotel was awarded two prestigious awards at a glittering awards ceremony on Thursday 16th November at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow.  Rosie celebrate winning two awards surrounded by her family, employer’s, and partners of the Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland.  The awards she won were:

  • Level 2 Apprentice of the Year
  • Scotland’s Apprentice of the Year

A fantastic achievement for Rosie!  On winning the award Rosie had this to say: “It is overwhelming, and I was really shocked to hear my name but so happy. My biggest supporter is my employer Rohaise Rose-Bristow who has encouraged me since day one. She told me I could have a future in the business and has been behind me all the way.”

Rosie’s employer and Chair of the Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland, Rohaise Rose-Bristow added “Rosie so deservedly won this award and we are thrilled for her talent, energy and passion to be recognised.  She is a role model for all apprentices and I know that this is just the beginning, as definitely a future star in our industry”

Rosie started at the Torridon two years ago as the hotel’s first apprentice as part of the Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland.  Rosie quickly felt at home in this industry and found her feet in all four areas of the apprenticeship (Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, Kitchen and Reception) completing her Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship in Hospitality Services this year and at the same time was nominated for the Skills Development Scotland, Level 2 Apprentice of the Year award.  In recognition of her hard work and skills, Rosie was recently promoted to Reception supervisor and has moved into year three of the apprenticeship commencing work on her Level 3 qualification in the new year.

We will certainly be keeping an eye on Rosie as a Rising Star in our industry and look forward to hearing what the next year entails as Scotland’s Apprentice of the Year 2017!
