Rosie was an apprentice at The Torridon Hotel and won apprentice of the year in 2017.

What made you choose an apprenticeship and in particular the Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland?
I had applied to work at The Torridon for the season and after a month I was approached by Rohaise who told me about the scheme. I hadn't been to university or given much thought to my career but something just felt right about pursuing a career in hospitality I was inspired by the team's passion for what they do and the apprenticeship looked like an amazing place to start.

Where are you now? / What position do you hold:
Front of House Duty Manager

How did the apprenticeship help you get here?
I have worked my way through the apprenticeship at the Torridon which has given me the experience and opportunity to develop my skills and confidence. I chose to do my 3rd year in front of House and was promoted to guest relations duty manager once I had completed the apprenticeship. I was then promoted again to Front of House Duty Manager.

What would you say to those thinking of applying this year?
The programme is an excellent opportunity and a fantastic way to start a career. The learning journeys provide unique experiences and there is an amazing support system with employers, training matters and other apprentices.

Something Interesting/Fav chef/Hobby/fav sport/something we don’t know about you(?)
Although the kitchen was my least favourite part of the apprenticeship, I now really enjoy cooking and baking.

Someone you’d love to meet:
The Queen
